2021 Self-Care Guide [pt. 1]

😴 The bedtime routine.

Let’s get to the point, 2020 was awful and we need to regroup— big time. Here is what I am incorporating into my bedtime routine this year, at least twice a week. It’s best to ease into new routines so that they don’t seem like a chore— but rather, something you look forward to.

Step 1: Light those essential oils

I’m a newbie when it comes to essential oils, but boy, am I all over them like white on rice. My go-to essential oil is peppermint because of its focus on healing headaches—which I tend to have towards the end of the day when everything piles up. If you’re in the same boat as I am, that’d be a good place to start, if not, lavender is always a safe bet if you’re not sure about what you’d like. Essential oils can be used in many ways, you can light them, melt them or mist them into your space. I have a mister that also comes with a controllable light for 🌟a little spice🌟. Take this time to do deep breaths. Breathe in that soothing aroma and breathe out the stress from your day— feeling lighter? Good, let’s move on.

Step 2: Do some bedtime yoga

Well, now that you have a bonafide studio in your home, let’s dust off that yoga mat. Bedtime yoga is another great way to prepare your body for sleep. You want to pick a yoga routine that gets the heart pumping for those yummy endorphins but not too challenging that you may get frustrated by not perfecting a pose or get you too worked up with a complicated routine. (I’ve included my favorite bedtime yoga routine from TruFusion Austin’s YouTube channel here.) Alright, done? Hit the showers!

Step 3: Apply a face mask (the ones you still like)

Okay, so you’ve just taken your steamy shower— now what? It’s time to mask up. And, before you have an internal anxiety situation, I don’t mean the kind of mask that we all don outside the house now. They’re great and necessary too, but what I’m talking about here is good for your pores. Picking which kind of face mask is up to you. Different types of masks accomplish different things. Clay masks are good for combating oily skin and acne, while mud masks are good for removing toxins and improving circulation. I’ve previously done a review of my favorite mud mask from HelloBody. Check it out if you’re interested in trying something new!

Step 4: Sleep!

Okay—wow, friend! You are looking happy, relaxed and glowy😍. You’re ready for the ultimate treat, sleep! I will preface this portion by saying that not everyone needs 8hrs of sleep and honestly, not everyone’s best time to sleep is in the evening. So, take this bedtime when you need it. And remember, getting adequate sleep is the best thing you can do for yourself to stay healthy— physically and mentally!

Love,
Jas💛
